アジア太平洋障害者連携フォーラム｜開催主旨及びプログラム

Foreword
The Japanese Society for Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities (hereinafter referred to as JSRPD) has been entrusted by the Duskin AINOWA Foundation and the Japan International Cooperation Agency and has been implemented a training program for over twenty years, which was organized to invite persons with disabilities mostly from the Asia-Pacific region to Japan so that they would play active roles as disability leaders in their home countries/regions. After returning to their home countries/regions on completion of the training, former trainees launched advocacy awareness activities regarding education and employment and the movement aimed at improving the quality of life in their respective home countries/regions; some of them have even grown to play a role in the disability policy decision-making of the government of their home countries/regions.
The JSRPD and the Nippon Foundation, Co-host of the Forum, have therefore planned to organize a forum to promote their activities widely to Japanese society and induce new collaborations. First, former trainees (7 persons from 7 countries/regions) of the Duskin Leadership Training in Japan are invited as speakers to make presentation on the role they played in the disability movement in the Asia-Pacific region and the track of the movement, followed by a discussion about the success factors. Then, a consideration will be made with the involvement of Japanese experts as to possibilities and outlook of "assurance of organization's sustainability and employment creation through social entrepreneurship" as a new strategy to bring their movements to another higher level.
Recently, key words such as CSR (Corporate Social Responsibilities), SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) and SRI (Socially Responsible Investment) have become more popularized in Japanese society, and with this trend serving as a tailwind, civil society and private sector have come to be strongly conscious of the need for solving social issues. In addition, the increased closeness of mutual exchange between the Asia-Pacific region and Japan has opened up great possibilities for persons with disabilities of the region to directly join hands with Japanese disability organizations, private companies and individuals. This Forum has been organized as a result of such change of times, and at the timing when there is one year and a half left until the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games. We sincerely hope that this Forum will provide a good opportunity for various stakeholders related to disability issues to demonstrate new forms of collaboration and a model of social change and serve as an aid to solving disability issues in Japan and the world.
